Daedalus Apex 2. (Swiss, 1980). Marco Broggi, designer. Similar to Quicksilver E except the use of a tractor engine. Single seat, high wing monoplane with hybrid control. Uses kingpost and cables for double surfaced wing. 24 hp. Konig SC430.

 

 

 

Delta Bird. (U.S. 1982). Evolved from the Whing Ding II and designed by Robert Hovey. Tractor engine, biplane. Aluminum tube and sailcloth construction. 3-Axis control. Double surface, strut braced wings. Taildragger landing gear with steerable tailwheel. Length 15’, height 6’, Wing span upper24’, wing span lower 20’2”, and total wing area 160 sq/ft. 30 hp. Delta Hawk. Another Hovey design. Single place, aluminum tube fuselage and empennage with fabric covering. Empty weight 248 lbs. Gross weight 445 lbs. Wing span and wing area same as Delta Hawk. Load factors +- 3.7 Gs. Not rated for aerobatics. Second pic is of the Super Delta Hawk. All aluminum fuselage.

 

  

 

 Demoichelle. (Fr., 2007). Copy of the 1908 Demoiselle by Alberto Santos-Dumont as seen on the right. First displayed at the European Ultralight show at Blois, France. 3-Axis controls. Wings are single spar NACA 23112. The Demoichelle does not have ailerons, the control is through a differential wing rotation (+2°, -4°). Rotax 377 tractor engine. Length 17.3 ft., height 6.8’.  Diana H 39. (1983). Designed by Wolf Hoffman. From the H 36 Dimona model of 1980. Single seat, strut braced high-wing monoplane with 3-Axis control. Length 18.4’, height 5.7’, wing span 32.8’, wing area 135 sq/ft. 26 hp Konig SD570 engine. Empty weight 210 lbs. Payload 265 lbs. Structural limit +6Gs and -3Gs. 15:1 glide ratio.  Diehl XTC Hydrolight. (1982). This is amphibious and uses a twin cylinder 25 horsepower KFM107 engine in a pusher configuration. It uses a canard and has twin tail rudders, and spoilerons on the wings. All three wheels retract and the nosewheel is steerable. The craft is very pitch sensitive. Empty Weight 240 lbs. Payload 230 lbs. Wing Span 32 ft. Wing area 155 sq/ft. Glide ratio 14:1. Build time approximately 400 hrs. Diehl AeroNautical.  (Jane’s 85-86, p. 683).

 

 

 Dmitriev X12C  (USSR, 1969 ). Designed by Tovaritch Dmitriyev as a single seat monoplane. Cantilevered wing with pusher engine. Length 11’, height 4.1’, wing span 18.2’. Empty weight 112 lbs. Unusually compact aircraft. (Jane’s 81-82, p. 615).

 

 

Domingueiro (Brazil, 83). Designed and built by Alfredo Wilke. Single place, single engine aircraft with fabric covered wood fuselage and wings. Length 15.8', height 5'10", wing span 33.3' and wing area 130 sq/ft. 36 hp VW 1200 cc tractor engine. Cruise speed 70 mph and stall speed 50 mph. Empty weight 230 lbs.


 

 

Dormoy Bathtub Mk1. (Aus.) Designed by Michael G. Kimbrel the Bathtub Mk.1 is based on the Dormoy Bathtub of 1924. Powered by a 27hp Rotax 277. Single seat ultralight first flown in 1978. Length 13’7", height 6’8", wingspan 23’11". Empty weight 302 lbs.  (Jane’s 81-82, p. 533).

Riveted aluminum tubing, dope and fabric covering with wire braced wing. Empty weight 241 lbs. Useful load 170 lbs. With Rotax 447 it cruises at 55 mph, stalls at 28 mph and climbs at 850 fpm.
